Meet Jessie, the newest member of our family. She’ll be joining us the first week of December. Riley will finally have a new butt to sniff.

Perfect October Day
Surounded by trees, we don’t get spectacular sunrises and sunsets. We just don’t get much of a horizon. But we do have a tiny vista, looking down our road to the hills just on the other side of the Missouri River. It’s so quiet we can hear approaching vehicles — few and far between if you don’t count neighbors — from far down the hill.
When the sun does shine through the trees in the late afternoon, we get some flattering light. My friend John says this was taken using the Old Man filter. I am much happier than I look. Ditto for Riley.
Turtle flees for life
When Riley shows up with a turtle in her mouth, I have to coax it away from her with a biscuit. I set the turtle on the ground somewhere outside of the invisible fence that surrounds our yard. I wonder what this must be like for the turtle and does it ever find its way back to friends and family.
Good book. Good dog.
Raisons d’être
Barb and Riley walked in the saddest St. Patrick’s Day Parade of them all. Seriously, who needs an excuse to drink?
Thankful
Riley and Friend
Riley finds Duck so comforting, I sometimes hold it in my mouth when she isn’t using it. Very calming.
Man’s Best Friend
I spend most mornings on the deck or the patio these days, enjoying Barb’s beautiful garden and Riley’s good company.
Soaking up the sun
Pals
Hattie (or oldest Golden) had a little surgery on Monday. She’s doing fine but has one of those Frankenstein incisions she really wants to scratch. So the hood and the crate for another week. Riley is missing their play sessions and is staying close.
Sure would hate to do this quarantine thing without a couple of good dogs.
