Soldier of Fortune Tour: David Brazeal
I’ve started dropping pins on my Soldier of Fortune Tour map. I drove down to Springfield, MO yesterday to have lunch with David Brazeal. We worked together for many years and he’s self-employed now so he was generous with his time. We talked for 3 hours. As much as I enjoy digital communication, there is no substitute for sitting across a table from a friend. Looking forward to doing more of this.

Kennett Country Club burns
Don’t know the cause but will update when that info makes its way to me.
James Arness
When I heard that James Arness had died my first thought was, “How could he still be alive?!” It’s just that Gunsmoke was so long ago.
So I dug out this photo taken when Craig Watson and I “interviewed” the popular TV actor when he appeared at the Sikeston Bootheel Rodeo. KBOA news guys John Reeder did the recording and Craig (on the right) and I asked some questions. Marshall Dillon signed my Fanner 50 holster.
Joanne
A life-long friend died today. I’ll post more when I think of something to say. This a photo of Joanne with her (twin) brother, Richard. It was taken at the old train station in Kennett, MO. Here are a few more photos.
River City Florist
I stopped by Barb’s office yesterday to hand-deliver some flowers. Her office is a block from the Coffee Zone. I purchased this lovely loose arrangement from River City Florist which is also about a block from the Coffee Zone.
They really do a nice job and for reasons I cannot fathom, they only charge half-price if I stop by the shop and pay cash. Maybe the mark-up in flowers is that high… I don’t know and don’t care. The flowers are beautiful and different every time.
I’m going to ask if they’ll let me record the person (down in the basement!) doing the arrangement. He or she makes the bouquet very fast and it might be interesting to see the process.
PS: No, I get no discount for this endorsement. Since I shared my Valentine Day Massacre story, I thought I’d give my new florist some props.

Joe Bankhead
Joe Bankhead died this week. Not sure of his age but he was well into his 90’s. He was a good friend of my father’s and one of the original employees of KBOA, the radio station where they both worked. And I did a 12 year stint there many years ago. Joe was one of the most self-confident people I ever met. Part of his story is here.
Snow Dogs
Barb took the dogs out a few times to play in the snow and as you can see from her video, they love it. Here’s Hattie with her beloved blue ball.
