I’ve been driving more than 50 years and I’ve never changed the oil on one of my cars. I think I’ll give it a shot when I get the truck. Part numbers referenced in this video:

Thanks for the tips, Charlie. Gonna put you on speed dial.
Steve – I smiled when I read this post. You can do this and it’s a satisfying job to do yourself. A few points for the home mechanic:
– Get an oil container that catches and allows for transport. I take mine to the dump, where they take the oil for free. This one works: http://a.co/iaLLngM
– Get a box of good Nitrile gloves. You will use them often as a Land Rover owner: http://a.co/emjtlsZ
– Shop towels are your friend: http://a.co/4gAH02A
– Place a sheet of cardboard underneath the workspace. I always end up spilling here/there.
– You will need 2 gallons of oil. Which is exactly the right amount if you change the oil in the air filter at the same time (you should). After filling the air filter bowl to the fill line, what’s left remaining in that gallon, along with the second gallon, fill you oil to the fill line – perfectly (remember, you will need to run the engine to get the oil back into the filter/system – then check the dip stick). Use this oil: http://a.co/65Tulmv
– Someone taught me this trick: When changing the oil filter, once the bolt is loose enough to hand loosen, put a garbage bag over the whole apparatus and use your hand to back the bolt off until the canister releases. When it does, oil runs everywhere – but in this case, the plastic garbage bag takes care of it all. I learned this the hard way.
Overall, a super easy job and satisfying. Do it once a year, regardless of milage. Can’t help you with the fuel filter, mine is petrol, not diesel but that video dows a great job of explaining…
