Interesting development. There is a movement at present to change dental board exams so that students (graduated dentists) can use manikins which are just a mounted jaw with plastic teeth to take their board exams. The primary reason is the difficulty in finding appropriate patients and getting those patients to actually be there for the board exam. Many patients are demanding significant payment to show up for they know how important it is for the Dr. to do the procedures and pass the clinical aspect of the Board exam. I would imagine these “robots” are very expensive and thus would not be a viable option for this kind of use. I would hope they are NOT using them in schools for prospective dentists NEED live patient interaction as part of their training.
